MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL

The Council's meetings are generally held in the Chamber of the Town Hall.  Agendas are published in advance and displayed on the town notice board next to the Town Hall in Castle Street and in the Library.  The agenda of the next scheduled meeting is also available on this website.

The public are entitled to attend all meetings to observe the business transacted.  Members of the public do not take part in the meeting and may not speak.

ANNUAL MEETING

This is held in early May.  It is the most ceremonial of the Council's meetings and is held in the main hall of the Town Hall.  During the meeting the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected and installed in office.  The Mayoress and Deputy Mayoress are also installed.

COUNCIL MEETING

Council meets formally on the first Monday of the month (unless it is a Bank Holiday).  There is usually no meeting in August.

Typical business during a Council meeting includes:

  • Meetings with invited visitors.  For example the Council may invite officials of the County Council to discuss matters of interest to the town.
  • Approving the minutes of the previous meeting.
  • Confirming and adopting any recommendations from the previous Finance and Planning Committee Meeting.
  • Other items of interest or importance to the town

FINANCE AND PLANNING COMMITTEE

Most of the Council's day to day business is transacted at this committee which meets on the fourth Monday of the month (unless it is a bank holiday).  There is usually no meeting in August.  All Councillors are members of this Committee.  The meeting is slightly less formal than the Council meeting, which enables a more thorough discussion of issues and more business to be transacted.

Typical business during a Finance and Planning Committee includes:

  • Notification of planning decisions made by Anglesey County Council
  • Approval of payments
  • Confirming and adopting recommendations from previous sub-committee meetings
  • Dealing with correspondence
